If you are looking for a healthy, yet satisfying sweet treat, this is it! You can whip up a batch of these yummies in ten minutes or so, any time you need a quick and nutritious pick-me-up snack.
When I made these guys for the first time on Thanksgiving a few years ago, I thought I would be the only one to eat them. To my surprise, they were gone almost immediately. Everyone loved them, even the kids!
Feel free to play around with this recipe if you are inspired to do so. You can do so much with it! Blend in your favorite dried fruits, nuts and seeds. I love to use dates and honey to sweeten these protein bites, but you can substitute with other natural sweeteners, such as molasses, coconut sugar or maple syrup.
The more nuts and seeds you add, the higher the protein content. You can also blend in a scoop of your favorite protein powder if you are eating these guys as a pre- or post-workout snack. Don’t be afraid to experiment.
I have tried adding a cup of goji berries, a ripe banana and a teaspoon of raw maca powder (a known anti-oxidant and potent aphrodisiac) to the mix. It turned out delicious each time 🙂 Improvisation and imagination oftentimes lead to great inventions in the kitchen!
I hope you enjoy this sweet creation. It is one of those recipes that sticks, because you literally don’t have to follow strict guidelines or specific directions. Just get a handful of healthy, plant-based ingredients, blend them together, and voila! You get a tasty little snack that will nourish your body and leave you feeling full of energy!
