Melons are in season right now and are bursting with sweetness. Take a stroll to your local grocery store to farmers’ market and you will find various-shades-of-gold melons beaming at you from the produce shelves. Enjoy these delicious late summer fruits while you can.
This is the best time of year to shop at the farmers’ market as there is an abundance of beautiful produce to choose from. I buy so many different fresh fruits each week that I need to come up with creative ways to use them so they don’t go to waste.
Melons are rich in antioxidants, such as Vitamins C and A (carotenoids). A cup of fresh melon (160 g) provides a great deal of potassium and magnesium, two of the most important alkalizing minerals. Melons are also a good source of dietary fiber and B vitamins which are needed for healthy cell function and metabolism.
This smoothie is a super yummy way to enjoy your fresh-from-the-farmers-market-stand melon. You can make things sweeter and more fun by adding in banana, fresh mango and avocado as well as plant proteins and omega 3’s in the form of nutritious seeds like chia and hemp. It is absolutely delightful ♥

- ½ fresh, ripe melon or cantaloupe
- 1 ripe banana
- ¼ cupe mango chunks (optional)
- ¼ fresh avocado
- 1 Tbsp chia
- 1 Tbsp raw hemp seeds
- Almond milk or any other nut milk of choice*
- Blend all ingredients until smooth
- Enjoy while fresh!
