I’m totally obsessed with this smoothie! I kid you not, I can’t stop drinking it. It’s simply AMAZING.
I love avocados. I know many people try to stay away from these yummy guys thinking that they are high in fat. Honestly, I have been eating at least one whole avocado each day for the past year and have not gained a single pound…well, not from avos anyway 🙂
I must confess that I have a tiny obsession with chocolate, which I sometimes tend to eat a bit too much of (check out this amazing recipe for raw chocolate I am totally loving right now).
Yes, it’s true that avocados are high in fat, monounsaturated fat especially, but this is one of the healthiest fats you can have in your diet. Your body needs it to work optimally. In fact, each of your cells uses the essential fats you take in through your diet to strengthen and repair membrane function.
Mono- and polyunsaturated fats are also good for your heart and help to improve brain function.
That being said, everything (even medicinal foods like avocados) should be consumed in moderation.
I usually try to buy a half dozen unripe avos to keep in my kitchen. I store them next to other fruits, such as bananas. The ethylene gas released by ripening fruit helps the avocados to naturally soften and be ready to eat in a day or two. That way they don’t get too mushy.
I have a whole avocado almost every day, either blended in a smoothie, salad or just by itself (spiced with some sea salt) as a nutritious afternoon snack. I have noticed great improvement in my energy levels, memory and concentration, as well as in my complexion and skin texture.
Today, I’m giving you one of my most loved avocado smoothie recipes. It’s very easy to make and requires minimal preparation. I usually have this drink on those busy days when I need to run out of the house without a proper breakfast. It really is a perfectly balanced, satisfying meal in a cup!
The avo-hemp smoothie not only looks, but also tastes heavenly. It’s packed with good nutrition as well. You get a perfect combination of complex carbohydrates for energy, plant-based protein and essential fats, plus lots and lots of vitamins, minerals an antioxidants. It’s so good! I promise you, everyone who tastes this baby absolutely loves it ♥
